Empyrean Ascendant
Empyrean Ascendant (working title)
It is your destiny alone to carry the flame of civilization into the cosmos! Colonize planets, build up fleets, and destroy all those who would seek to deny you your birthright!
Instructions:
- Standard RTS controls
- Use planets to construct ships. Will need to construct a space station first.
- To colonize a planet, have a colony ship selected and right click a planet
- To bomb a planet, have a bomber selected and right click a planet
- Scouts cannot attack
This is made for the It's Based Jam. This is an RTS game that will have 4x elements in the future. It is/will be heavily inspired by the old 4x game "Stars!". Has all the standard RTS controls (although num-binding groups doesn't work on the web version, for some reason). Hope you enjoy playing this! I will continue to work on this project after the jam, as I wish to see it be a full game released on Steam.
To-Do List:
- Sound effects and music
- Much bigger maps and multiple enemies
- Finish fleshing out economy (ability to build additional mines and factories to increase production)
- Implement terraforming
- Implement research and tech
- Implement custom ship designing from ships and parts discovered from research
- Implement preset and custom races to play as
- Optimize to make it run smoother, and allow for even larger maps
- Redo art (still undecided on if final art will be pixel, raster, or vector)
- More that I've either forgotten about, or will come up with while working on this

I've had a couple game-stopping errors so Unfortuantely I haven't played too far it, but here's my first impressions.
I guess you only tested this on desktop and in editor, moving the mouse outside the gameplay window to read the instructions on the webpage causes the whole view to move. Might want to make the view scrolling with more intent to avoid accidents like that.
I got the Mayflower to the second planer, and, that's it. I don't know where to go from there. The instructions mention different ship types and really had to guess about them. I have no idea how to get different ships.
If you decide to continue working on this game, my main suggestion is to teach the player in-game. Try to find a balance between intuitive interface and outright hand-holding tutorials.
Thanks for the feedback! I apologize for the crashes, they are likely due to you right clicking while you have a planet selected. This was an oversight on my part and it has already been fixed in the next version that I'm currently working on. Good point on the view scrolling, I can see how that would be annoying when checking on things outside the game window.
As for how to make additional ships, when you have a planet that you control selected, you will either see a button to build a space station (currently named Babylon 5), or, if that planet already has a space station, there will be buttons to build the different ship types. Adding in tooltips and additional visual feedback as to what you have selected and what things do are for sure planned.
